What if the driver who hit you only has $25,000 insurance coverage and you are seriously injured in a car accident?
And can you guess what it might cost to recover from a serious injury from an auto accident? Not to mention the medical care you need in the future and all of the income you have lost because you can't work.
Think, hundreds of thousands of dollars. Especially if there is a surgery and hospitalizations in the picture. You could find yourself with months and months of recovery time, and only two weeks of sick leave.
Are you starting to get the picture?
The answer is simple: Underinsured Motorist Coverage, or UIM.
UIM is a type of insurance coverage that will "cover the gap" in case you are hit by somebody who only has the legal limit of coverage (or no insurance at all) and is driving around like that....driving on their phone, drunk driving, aggressive driving - we see distracted drivers all the time. This is NOT the kind of driver that you want to get hit by (as if there were any type of driver we DID want to get hit by).
If you have to be in an accident, hopefully the person or company who caused the accident (especially in DC, Maryland or Virginia) has enough liability insurance coverage. But that is the tip of the iceberg. You may be wondering, who is going to handle the insurance company, manage your medical records, deal with legal correspondence, make sure you and your family are taken care of, while you're just working on getting better?
That's where we come in.
Here at Donahoe Kearney, we focus on helping people with serious injuries, many times caused by serious car and truck accidents on the Beltway, 270, 395, 66, and all over the DMV. We know how to deal with your claim from start to finish and we also start by advising our clients: "DO NOT speak to the insurance company from the other side. And DO NOT give a recorded statement.
Next, go ahead and get the medical treatment that you need. The At-Fault Driver will be responsible for your medical treatment, but that money won't come in until after you are done with treatment so go ahead and do what you need to do. For our clients, we take care of managing the medical records and keeping track of all of the financial aspects so all you have to worry about is getting better.
