What Is A Life Care Planner And What Do They Do?

My Son Has Cerebral Palsy Caused By Medical Malpractice in MarylandLife Care Planners In Maryland Involved With Cerebral Palsy

A life care planner is usually a doctor or rehabilitation nurse who has experience working with patients with disabilities similar to your son's disabilities.

For example, a child with cerebral palsy may be paralyzed and need a wheelchair, may not be able to speak, and may not be able to feed himself.  A life care planner will assess the child and meet with the parents, review the child's medical records and sometimes speak with his doctors.  Then, the life care planner will analyze the child's needs (now and in the future) and survey the costs of those needs to determine the services needed and costs of those services for the child's lifetime.

For a child with cerebral palsy as described above, those costs and services may include wheelchair replacement, home modifications for accessibility, a handicap van, physical therapy, medications, diapers, home health nurses and aids, orthopedic and neurology consultations and examinations, etc.

The Goal Of A Life Care Planner Is To Help You Succeed And Care For Your Child

In a Maryland or D.C. medical malpractice case for a child with cerebral palsy because of a birth injury, we have 1 shot at replacing the harms and losses a child has suffered, so we want to make sure we know all of the child's needs, both now and when he grows up.  A life care planner will prepare a report with all of this information for the child's individual needs.
