Beware of the auto insurance adjuster:
After your car accident, you’ll probably be assigned to an auto insurance adjuster who will contact you to collect more information about the accident. On paper, they are supposed to analyze the situation and determine the extent of the insurance company’s liability, or in other words, how much the insurance company has to pay. BUT these insurance adjusters work for the insurance company. Their task is to minimize the amount of money their companies have to pay. These insurance adjusters will use anything they can get to try to downplay what actually happened so that the insurance company doesn’t have to pay you what you’re entitled to.
In many states, like Virginia, it’s legal to not carry auto liability insurance. That’s why you have to make sure that you protect yourself and your family by buying uninsured, or underinsured, motorist coverage from your own insurance company. It’s not expensive coverage, and if you get hit by a driver with no insurance or a minimum policy – for example, $25,000 policy limits – underinsured motorists’ coverage will pay damages over and above the other driver’s policy limits. A serious injury requiring surgery, hospitalizations, physical therapy and rehab will go through that $25,000 pretty quickly.
In small cases with minor injuries, you don’t actually need an attorney to settle your case:
You definitely do not need an attorney for every small injury case. In fact, our office does not even accept cases where there’s little or no property damage or the injuries are minor because in small cases, the attorney fee and costs might leave little or nothing for you after your medical bills are paid, and we don’t believe that would be fair to you. We’re here to help people and the people who really need us are those who have serious injuries that have changed their lives and the lives of their families. We know we can’t help everyone. And that’s why we sometimes refer people to lawyers we trust or try to give you good information you can use to help yourself.
There are free resources that are available for you: Since most people would not find themselves in more than one severe car accident, this is probably your first car accident. Because of that, you’re put into an unfair game right from the moment you were injured. You are going up against insurance companies and auto insurance adjusters who have been dealing with car accident cases for years. They know the traps and tactics to trick innocent people of their compensation and this is unfair. That’s why we provide free resources for people, who were injured in a car accident in DC, Maryland, or Virginia. You can download the report 7 Sins That Will Wreck Your Accident Case and the e-book The Ultimate Guide To Accident Cases In The Dc Metro Area.
