Have You Been Assigned a Nurse Case Manager on Your Workers Compensation Case?

After you’re injured at work, the insurance company would probably assign a nurse case manager to your case. A nurse case manager will try to follow youInsurance Nurse Case Managers in Washington DC to all your medical appointments, to meet with your doctor, and to get involved with anything and everything regarding your work injury and medical treatment. But nurse case managers are not on your side.

Nurse Case Managers Work for the Insurance Company

Who hired them? The insurance company. So who will they be loyal to? The insurance company.

Nurse case managers will not have your health as their top priority. Their sole job is to try to get you back to work as soon as possible so that the insurance company keeps its costs down. The insurance company hires nurse case managers to limit the medical treatment you receive, interfering with the doctor-patient relationship, pushing your doctor to get you back to work before you are ready, and limiting medical or diagnostic tests that the insurance company will have to pay for.

So be careful when dealing with your nurse case manager! Everything you say to an insurance company nurse goes back to the insurance company. They will use anything they can to reduce what they have to pay.

Every so often we see a helpful nurse case manager, but it’s rare.  And how will you know?
