If you were hurt in a car accident, here are the four important things you MUST know:
1.Beware of the auto insurance adjuster: After your car accident, you'll probably be assigned an auto insurance adjuster who will contact you to collect more information about the accident. On paper, they are supposed to analyze the situation and determine the extent of the insurance company's liability, or in other words, how much the insurance company has to pay. BUT these insurance adjusters work for the insurance company. Their task is to minimize the amount of money their companies have to pay. These insurance adjusters will use anything they can to try and downplay what actually happened so that the insurance company doesn't have to pay you what you're entitled to.
2. Some drivers don't have auto insurance: In many states, like Virginia, it's legal to not carry auto liability insurance. That's why you have to make sure that you protect yourself and your family by buying uninsured, or underinsured, motorist coverage from your own insurance company. It's not expensive coverage, and if you get hit by a driver with no insurance or a minimum policy--- for example, $25,000 policy limits--- underinsured motorists' coverage will pay damages over and above the other driver's policy limits. A serious injury requiring surgery, hospitalization, physical therapy and rehab will go through that $25,000 pretty quickly
3.In small cases with minor injuries, you don't actually need an attorney to settle your case: You definitely do not need an attorney for every small injury case. In fat, our office does not accept cases where there's little or no property damage of the injures are minor because in small cases, the attorney fee and costs might leave little or nothing for you after your medical bills are paid. We cannot help everyone.
4. There are free resources that are available for you: Since most people would not find themselves in more than one severe car accident, this probably your first car accident. Because of that, you're put into an unfair game right from the moment you were injured. You are going up against insurance companies and auto insurance adjusters who have been dealing with accident cases for years. They know the traps and tactics to trick innocent people of their compensation and this is unfair. That's why we provide free resources for people. who are injured in a car accident in DC, Maryland, or Virginia.
