According to Washington Times, three years ago, a doctor in California waited too long to perform a C-section on one of his patients after he knew her baby's heart rate was worsening and the C-section had to be done sooner rather than later. The baby survived, but as a result of the medical error, she will never be able to walk, talk, or care for herself. She suffers from occasional seizures and must be fed through a feeding tube.
The judge also awarded the mother $250,000 in compensation for her emotional distress during the delivery.
Once again, we are glad that this surgeon is being held responsible for his actions, and that, though this family will never be made 'whole', they will have the money they need to provide the best care for their little girl who now has a disability for the rest of her life.
