Fall Protection Saves Lives on Job Sites

Construction Workers Who Fell From 13th Floor Saved by Fall Protection

Two construction workers were hanging in mid air (thankfully) 13 stories high earlier this month, all because of their fall protection harnesses. Proper safety equipment saved the workers' lives, allowing the fire department to rescue them.

Falls are still the leading cause of death in the construction industry, and a leading cause of injuries, despite OSHA and state laws requiring safe work places (there is a specific law in the District of Columbia, requiring employers to provide a safe work place).  And despite advances in technology and equipment.

Fall protection can be harnesses, nets, guardrails, etc. depending on the fall hazard and the jobsite.

When fall protection is ignored by the contractor, a devastating work injury can happen when a worker slips, stumbles or loses his balance.

Do you work on a construction site and you are not regularly using fall protection? Contact your foreman right away and do whatever you need to do in order to make fall protection a part of your work site. You don't want to wind up paralyzed or worse!
