Two construction workers were hanging in mid air (thankfully) 13 stories high earlier this month, all because of their fall protection harnesses. Proper safety equipment saved the workers' lives, allowing the fire department to rescue them.
Falls are still the leading cause of death in the construction industry, and a leading cause of injuries, despite OSHA and state laws requiring safe work places (there is a specific law in the District of Columbia, requiring employers to provide a safe work place). And despite advances in technology and equipment.
Fall protection can be harnesses, nets, guardrails, etc. depending on the fall hazard and the jobsite.
When fall protection is ignored by the contractor, a devastating work injury can happen when a worker slips, stumbles or loses his balance.
